Father Christmas is coming to town this evening to switch on the Christmas lights of St Peter Port.

Thousands are expected to witness the Christmas Parade which departs from the Model Yacht Pond at 15:30 as it heads to Market Square for the switch on at 17:00.

The 25-foot Christmas Tree has already been installed, and is being sponsored by Sure.

Jonathan Creasey, who became chair of the Lights Committee earlier this year, said the team has pulled out all the stops to make it a night to remember for young islanders and their families.

“The switch on day is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate. The success of the lights depends on public support and collaboration and the Committee would like to thank all of the sponsors for helping light up St Peter Port. The magic simply wouldn’t happen without them,” he said.

Mr Creasey, a retail stalwart, said the new committee has been focused on improving the town shopping experience this year with a more joined-up approach with late-night trading on Thursday evenings.

Sponsors for Christmas in St Peter Port include Sure, Butterfield, Vets for Pets, Kirkwood Property, Walter Property, Rihoys, AFM, Creaseys and M&S. Thanks also go to Ferry Speed, St Peter Port Constables, States of Guernsey and Guernsey Post.
