Deputy Gavin St Pier and his wife have denied allegations of harassment – saying they “unequivocally deny any wrongdoing”.

Gavin and Jane St Pier were arrested on 3 December. They were released without charge and have said they hope “this will be the end of the matter”.

Deputy St Pier issued a statement confirming this today, saying they are aware that there are rumours circulating.

“My wife and I are the subjects of an investigation following a complaint alleging harassment,” he wrote.

“This is a shocking allegation which we completely refute.”

The couple were arrested on 3 December, just six days after Deputy St Pier escaped a 25-day suspension from the States after a majority of his political colleagues voted overwhelmingly to reject the proposed sanction from the States Standards Commissioner.

She said he had breached the Code of Conduct but Deputy St Pier told the States that he would not stop trying to help families who have contacted him asking for support in their own situations concerning the medical care of their children and safeguarding concerns.

“We have stated unequivocally that we deny any wrongdoing whatsoever,” said Deputy St Pier in his statement today.

“Following interviews under caution, we were released without charge. The interviews did not refer to any material information that is not already in the public domain.

“This week we naively imagined that we could finally move on with our lives after nearly four years of complaints being lodged against me.

“We are hopeful that this will be the end of the matter.

“As I said in closing my speech last week, I will continue to represent the interests of those who wish me to do so and to press for systemic and cultural change in our healthcare systems.”
