Guernsey’s most senior political committee has confirmed that Deputy Gavin St Pier will continue on Policy and Resources whilst a Police investigation is ongoing.

Deputy St Pier, and his wife Jane St Pier, (pictured top and inset), were both arrested a week ago on suspicion of harassment.

In a statement released by Deputy St Pier last week, he said they both “unequivocally deny any wrongdoing”.

He confirmed they were both interviewed under caution, before being released without charge.

The couple are “hopeful that this will be the end of the matter”, wrote Deputy St Pier.

Guernsey Police have however said the matter remains open: “On the morning of 3 December, Guernsey Police arrested both a 58-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman on suspicion of harassment,” confirmed a spokesperson.

Enquiries are now ongoing, and no further comment will be provided while the investigation continues.”

Deputy St Pier also confirmed the matter concerns information already in the public domain – and he referred to last week’s States debate where he escaped a 25-day suspension from the States after he was found guilty of breaching the States Members’ Code of Conduct.

The Policy & Resources Committee has now released a statement saying Deputy St Pier will continue his work and “fulfill” his “responsibilities.

Deputy Lindsay De Sausmarez, the President of P&R stated: “I committed to providing an update on the Committee’s position regarding Deputy St Pier.

“The Committee does not believe it would be appropriate to take any action until the police investigation has concluded. Until then, the Committee will maintain a neutral position and Deputy St Pier will continue to fulfill his Committee responsibilities.”
