He was due to speak about his new book ‘The State of Us: The Good News and the Bad News about our Society’ as one of the major events of the Festival.

Tickets will be refunded to purchasers. Event sponsor Walter Property have since agreed to support Dan Walker for the slot instead, where he will talk about his book ‘Standing on the Shoulders – Incredible Heroes and How They Inspire Us’. 

That event is scheduled for 19:30 on Saturday 13 May at St. James.  Festival Director, Claire Allen said: “We are so disappointed that Jon isn’t able to come – ticket sales had already shown how popular his talk would have been, but we fully understand and have sent him our very best wishes.”

This year’s Festival, which runs between 2 and 14 May, will have more than 65 events, including 17 in schools, featuring international writers and speakers covering a wide range of subjects.
