Some election candidates are counting the cost of their posters being damaged in what may be acts of vandalism.
Forward Guernsey shared the effect of damage to some of their campaign material earlier this week.
The party is fielding six candidates in the upcoming island wide poll – current Deputy Gavin St Pier, and political newcomers Tom Rylatt, Rhona Humphreys, Dicky Parmer, Stuart Jehan, and Sofi Noakes.
Posting on Facebook, a party spokesperson said the damage is “disappointing”.
“Disagree with us, challenge us, question us, debate us, don’t vote for us – but there is no justification for criminal damage.”
Other candidates, including Sarah Hangman Rouxel, Chris Blin, and Heidi Almonte, have also been on the receiving end of alleged vandalism.
While some damage may be caused by windy weather, Ms Hansmann Rouxel – who is seeking re-election to the States, having been a Deputy between 2016 and 2020 – shared images of her campaign posters that look like they have been thrown over a hedge, with damaged supports scattered around them.
“I know people are angry, but this doesn’t solve anything,” she wrote on Facebook.
She also encouraged anyone responsible for the damage to reach out and speak to her.
A Guernsey Police spokesperson said they are “aware of damage caused to an election sign on Route du Picquerel and are looking into the matter”.
“Anyone with information is asked to call 01481 222 222.”
Earlier this week, Deputy Peter Roffey alleged damage to his motorbike, e-bike, and his grandson’s car was politically motivated.
The Roffey family had returned home to find the tyres slashed on three of their vehicles.
“I can’t prove that it was politically motivated, but people should know I’m very accessible, if you disagree, talk to me about it, because this really is not the Guernsey way of doing things,” he told Express.
“I’ve had threats before, and I know both Deputies Ferbrache and Oliver have had situations with vandalism, but this really is not the way the Guernsey community does things.”
A spokesperson for Guernsey Police said the incident “will be investigated”.
A spokesperson for Bailiwick Law Enforcement told Express that: “witnesses are asked to contact police headquarters on 01481 222 222 or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111”.
