With the sun forecast to shine across the bank holiday weekend, boat owners are urged to check their life jackets before heading out to sea.
The Guernsey Boatowners Association recently launched a project encouraging the servicing of life-jackets. If they can’t be serviced they should be replaced said the GBA.
To encourage people to have adequate life-jackets for any boat trips, GBA members are eligible for a 20% discount on servicing from AB Marine Ltd or 20% off the purchase of a new life-jacket from AB Marine and Marine and General chandleries.
Nick Guillemette, President of the GBA, said anyone who owns a sea-going vessel of any description from a yacht or power boat to a kayak or paddle-board, needs a life-jacket.
“We hope that this will appeal not only to our existing members but will also attract new GBA membership. The value of these discounts will more than cover the £30 annual GBA membership cost.
“So, don’t delay and don’t cut costs, keep yourself safe while you enjoy the fun of being on the sea.”
The 20% discount is being funded by the chandleries at AB Marine and Marine & General and the GBA Benevolent Fund.
The scheme also has the full backing of Guernsey Harbours and the RNLI.
