The focus of the work will be on the Uninterrupted Power Supply which supports all HSC services that rely on electricity and IT infrastructure.

That includes everything from lifts at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital to electronic patient records.

In order for the work to be held with the least impact possible, it has been scheduled to start at 18:00 today.

The work will affect all HSC services that are delivered after that time including community services and any emergencies.

All IT, internet and intranet systems will be offline until around midnight while electricity supplies to the PEH campus will mean general lifts and automatic doors are not working.

The continuity systems and contingency plans in place to ensure critical services continue cover:

  • Paper request forms to enable blood work, radiology services etc to be ordered
  • A diversion for essential phone calls into HSC
  • Staff have mobile phone devices and will be provided with essential mobile contact numbers for their specific areas
  • An emergency lift will be available for emergency theatre transfers

Members of the public are asked to avoid calling the hospital after 18:00 unless essential while anyone visiting the hospital will have to use stairs to get to Frossard Ward, Loveridge Ward, Vic Wing and Giffard Ward. All other wards and service areas have level access from either the main entrance to the PEH or using the Vauquiedor or Bulstrode entrances.
