Covid update: quarter of the island ‘un-boosted’

Public Health has successfully vaccinated 75% of those eligible for a booster, following the programmes’ acceleration in December in response to the omicron variant.

As of the 30 December, and after a busy month for the vaccination team, 37,126 booster doses had been administered out of a target of 51,000.

The Community Vaccination Centre will be reducing its opening times due to the smaller number of people yet to get boosted. The latest drop-in times can be seen below:

The public are being reminded not to go and get their booster if they’ve had a positive swab within the 28 days prior.

It comes as Public Health records another 166 positive cases, while reporting 264 recoveries. It brings the Bailiwick of Guernsey’s total active cases to 2,312.

921 of these active cases are fully vaccinated, including their booster, while 440 are unvaccinated.

The high number of cases has seen a number of precautions being taken, including reduced swimming lessons being offered at Beau Sejour’s swim school.

“Beau Sejour’s Swim School will be offering reduced lessons for the first two weeks of term, staggering the term start date for various groups, as it seeks to limit the very large numbers of children from a variety of schools attending lessons at the same time,” said the centre.
