Work to knock down some of the old buildings at Guernsey’s animal shelter is continuing with more local businesses getting involved to help rebuild the GSPCA’s headquarters.
It’s long been known as the ‘big build’ – but before the new buildings can go up, the old ones had to come down.
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said numerous firms are helping the charity build a new future for the animals and community of Guernsey.
“…we met with Breton team, DLM Architects, WT Partnership and Dorey, Lyle & Ashman Ltd on site… it’s the first ever on site meeting with the team helping with the #GSPCABIGGESTBUILD.”

The new-look GSPCA site in St Andrew’s will be home to dog kennels, seal pools, animal welfare treatment rooms, an aviary, and a ferret unit, among other facilities when it reopens.
The demolition of the old buildings is well underway, as reported by Express last month, after nearly eight years of fund raising.
“We first started talking about building a Wildlife Hospital about nine years ago and at long last we have started what is a desperately needed facility,” said Mr Byrne.

“We now have many challenges to make it all a reality from working together to all carry out our work from our rescue and care work to the build team knocking down and rebuilding.
“We also need to raise a further £2,200,000 having raised nearly £1,500,000 since we launched the #GSPCABIGGESTBUILD appeal.”
