Castle Cornet, Guernsey Museum at Candie, Fort Grey and the German Naval Signals HQ will all be free to visit tomorrow, as part of national celebrations marking the King’s birthday.

Saturday 14 June is His Majesty’s official birthday this year.

His actual birthday is in November, but the Monarch’s birthday is marked each year in the summer too with the Trooping of the Colour in London and the awarding of national honours.

Heritage sites also open their doors to the public for free, including those owned and managed by Guernsey Museums.

The free access on King Charles III’s birthday is a token of celebration and “long-standing tradition” said Head of Heritage Services, Helen Glencross.

Castle Cornet will be open from 10:00 to 17:00, with the highlight of the day being the annual 21-gun salute at noon.

“We encourage locals and visitors to take advantage of free entry this Saturday and come and learn more about our museums. We have activities and trails at all our sites and at Castle Cornet, our brand-new activity space underneath the clock tower at Castle Cornet has just opened – why not come and take a look?” said Ms Glencross.

Guernsey Museum at Candie will also be open from 10:00 to 17:00, with visitors having free access to the permanent collections, as well as the current exhibition Guernsey Milk Tales- an exploration of the history of the Guernsey Dairy and milk production on the island.

Fort Grey will be open from 10:30 to 16:30 and the German Naval Signals HQ will welcome visitors from 10:30 to 15:00.
