Guernsey Mind is launching a new event at the end of October.
Supported by local company Gravity, ‘Walkies!’ invites local dogs and their owners to join together for a fun community event whilst raising funds to support the charity’s work on mental health and wellbeing.
The first walk will take place at L’Ancresse at the end of the month, on Sunday 26 October, with a 3km route, and a shorter version for older and smaller dogs.
Amanda Hibbs, the Communications and Events Lead for Guernsey Mind, said: “Caring for a pet can boost our mental health in many ways — from encouraging physical exercise and adding structure to our day, to providing companionship.

“Our pets are great listeners who never judge, and they can even help us meet new people. We wanted to celebrate this in a fun way and create a community event. Every dog will receive a goody bag, and any dog raising over £20 in sponsorship will be entered into a draw to win a luxury Pamper Hamper!”
She emphasised that those taking part must be mindful of the safety requirements to take part.
“We ask everyone to follow specific guidelines to ensure safety. All owners must have full control of their dogs and are solely responsible for their behaviour. We also require fixed leads to be used at all times rather than extendable leads. We’ll provide poo bags and extra bins along the route.”

There are four half hour time slots available between 08:30 and 10:00, with the number of spaces limited per slot. For dogs who may not like large crowds, or potentially don’t mix well with others, there is an option to do a remote walk on the same day.
Rob Newton, CEO of Gravity, said: “We’re delighted to support this new event with Guernsey Mind.
“It’s a great chance for people to get together, support mental health and wellbeing in our community, meet new people, enjoy the fresh air, and spend time with our four-legged friends!”
