Three of the 46 drivers/riders stopped by police officers have since been charged with dangerous driving.

A police spokesman said those three individuals have all now been sentenced by the island’s Traffic Court.

One of those cases was the motorcyclist who was caught doing 74mph by a police officer stationed on Northside at the Bridge in August.

“One of the most serious cases of dangerous driving by speeding saw a motorcyclist going 74mph in a 25mph zone as he came around the bend on Northside,” explained the police spokesperson.

“One of our Roads Policing Officers stopped him in August, while also dealing with several other high speed drivers in the same evening, in the same place.”

The spokesperson continued, with advice for all motorists.

“Speeding makes our roads more dangerous for everyone. If you have a collision driving at 70mph, the consequences will be so much worse than at 35mph for everyone involved; that is why speed limits exist.

“Be sensible when you drive, don’t risk your life or the lives of others. Don’t speed.”
