Learner drivers whose tests were pushed back were given an online payment token to rebook their test, which they will be able to use from tomorrow.
They are the only ones eligible to book for the time being, with Driver & Vehicle Licensing yet to announce when the booking system will be opened up further.
A reduced number of candidates will be permitted to take their test at any one time in order to comply with social distancing requirements. Additional sessions have been put on to help clear this backlog.
A spokesperson for DVL said that practical driving tests will not be commencing until Stage 3, which is expected to come into play the following Monday, 22 March.
Guidance on re-booking postponed practical tests is not yet available, but “will be issued in due course”.
