Craigs motor care

Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service and the other emergency services, and civil protection volunteers, were called to Craig’s Motor Care at the Ville Baudu shortly before 17:30 yesterday.

Initially it was said that fire fighters were dealing with a “vehicle fire” with a later message stating that it was now a “structure fire”.

The main building at Craig’s Motor Care which makes the corner of the Ville Baudu at the junction near the filter at Vale Church is still standing today, with the damage predominantly confined to a workshop.

Nearby roads including L’abbye and Route Militaire were closed while the fire was dealt with.

Both roads only reopened to passing motorists this morning.

Bailiwick Law Enforcement said that residents of neighbouring properties should “avoid touching any material which may have entered their gardens as a result of the fire”.

Anyone who finds fire-related debris on their property should call Environmental Health on 221161 if they have any concerns.

Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service are reported to have concerns that there may have been asbestos in the workshop roof which is dangerous when it is disturbed.

Firefighters will “continue to monitor and assess the site” today said a spokesperson.
