The incident happened yesterday morning, when the 45 year old man’s fishing boat was 12 miles west of Guernsey.

The Guernsey Coastguard received a distress alert and MAYDAY call at 10:30, requesting “immediate medical attention” for the casualty.

A coordinated emergency response was launched immediately with the French Civil Security helicopter ‘Dragon 50’ asked to assist.

It took a medical team out to the boat, arriving just after 11:30.

The casualty was then winched to safety from the aft deck of his fishing vessel, up to the helicopter.

He was flown to Guernsey Airport where an ambulance and paramedics met him and took him to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital for further medical treatment.
