Flags have been ordered to fly at half-mast to mark the death of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent.

Buckingham Palace announced the death of the duchess, Katharine, around midday yesterday.

She was the oldest member of the Royal Family, married to Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, and was a first cousin to Queen Elizabeth II.

Guernsey officials ordered the lowering of flags across the island yesterday afternoon.

They said the flags must fly at half-mast until this morning, whilst flags other than the Union Jack or the Guernsey flag are ordered to be taken down.
