Alderney’s by-election will see both available seats in the States contested.

Four candidates have been nominated, ahead of the polls opening on 8 March.

They are former States-member Lin Maurice, and political new comer Haydn Bateman; who were both unsuccessful in their bids to be elected to the States in November, and businesswomen Jeannie Cameron and Riduna Radio presenter Veronica Taylor; who are both standing for election for the first time.

The two vacancies were created by the resignation late last year of Nigel Vooght, followed by Bruce Woodhead’s resignation at the start of this year.

Mr Vooght stood down citing difficulties working with the island’s President, and political infighting among his colleagues.

Mr Woodhead has not publicly given any such reason for his resignation, but his decision came hot on the heels of Mr Vooght’s.

Their replacements will be elected on Saturday 8 March with polling to take place in the Members Room, Island Hall, Royal Connaught Square between the hours of 09:30 and 18:30.

The results are expected to be declared during that evening.
