The woman who launched a petition to try and get Dr Shokouh-Amiri struck off said she’s been contacted by “multiple women” in the Southend area who have raised concerns about their own experiences.

Mollie-Jane Randall launched her petition on 16 February and by this morning it was nearing 20,000 signatures.

She said her initial aim with the petition was “at least promote awareness to women of the risk of this man in the Gynae Department at Southend”.

After hearing from more women making allegations against him, she now wants to see him struck off.

Ms Randall – who has no known link to Guernsey – said she was entirely unaware of the controversy surrounding the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultant until after a Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service Panel gave him a formal warning for a number of serious failings in the care of six women in the island.

“Until I saw an initial post regarding his results from his (tribunal), my whole community and myself had no idea we were at risk from this man.

“Without our community sharing this information and a petition being made, hundreds of women could’ve become his victim including myself.

“Southend Hospital Gynae Department does not inform you of his past.

“We all have a right to know who we are being intimately examined by,” she added.

Dr Shokouh-Amiri worked in Guernsey between 2016 and 2019.

During that time he was Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Medical Specialist Group, also working at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

Between them, the six women – who were not known to each other at the time – made more than 100 allegations to the MSG and Guernsey Police about their treatment.

These included “serious failings” that the doctor admitted such as removing the ovaries of two women without their consent and failing to have a chaperone present during intimate examinations on multiple occasions.

Other allegations including touching the women intimately and making inappropriate comments about their sex lives, their husband’s genitals, and masturbation, were not proven.

A MPTS panel gave him a formal warning but found his fitness to practice was not impaired.

Dr Shokouh-Amiri has worked in Southend since 2022 and the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust said it has “full confidence in his ability to provide safe, high-quality care to our patients”.

Ms Randall said she and other people she has spoken with do not share that same confidence in Dr Shokouh-Amiri’s abilities.

“I feel passionately about this as I have worked in health care all my life and find it disgusting that a man who is traumatising women is being allowed to practice and is being supported by the medical board.

“Healthcare facilities are made to support and provide vital care to patients NOT to harm them and put them in fear of visiting their own local hospital,” she said.

“No one should ever be put in fear of requesting help from healthcare professionals. We are here to support and improve lives, not destroy them. Women are requesting to not have him as their doctor and are being put back on an extensive waiting list, just because they are in fear of being inappropriately touched by their own doctor.”

Ms Randall said she has been pleased with the support her petition has received, but has also been saddened by some of the conversations it has led to.

“After releasing the petition, I have had multiple women come forward to me and tell me their stories of their experiences with them. It is absolutely vile that the medical board has allowed this, ignored our concerns and continue to assure us ‘he is fit to practise’ even though, he is continuing to victimise female patients at Southend.”

The NHS Trust has confirmed that some people have asked to change their consultant – which is a patient right under the ‘NHS choice framework’.
