A single community fundraiser is set to make a tangible difference across Alderney in 2026 – supporting everything from young people travelling off-island, to bereavement care for pet owners, grassroots sport and families under financial pressure.
More than £5,000 has been distributed to four local organisations following Riduna Radio’s 2025 Advent Draw Appeal, with matched funding from the Freemasons of Guernsey and Alderney.
Riduna Radio said the Advent Draw was made possible through prizes donated by local businesses and individuals, describing the appeal as another example of Alderney’s strong community spirit and willingness to support local causes.
Directly supporting education, wellbeing, sport and social support on the island, here’s exactly what the donations will do…
Food vouchers for islanders under pressure
The largest single grant – £2,500 – has been awarded to Ground in Grace, a community initiative run by the Parish of St Anne. The project offers early-intervention support, hospitality and practical help for individuals and families facing financial pressure, with the funding earmarked primarily for local food vouchers to ensure direct benefit to Alderney residents.
Support through pet loss
Among the beneficiaries is the Alderney Animal Welfare Society has been awarded £600, which will enable two team members to complete accredited pet-loss support training with the Blue Cross.

The charity said the training will improve end-of-life and bereavement support for elderly pet owners, while also supporting staff wellbeing.
Building up boxing
Grassroots sport will also benefit, with £1,265 going to the Alderney Amateur Boxing Club.
The club is rebuilding after a period of closure during the pandemic and the retirement of senior coaches, having secured its licence again in 2025. The funding will help coaches gain and maintain Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications, which require off-island training in Guernsey or the UK.
Youth expeditions
The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme has received £660 to help offset the cost of off-island expeditions planned for 2026.
With transport costs for a single Bronze expedition estimated at more than £2,300, the funding will contribute £60 per student towards travel, easing the burden on families, students and volunteers who are already fundraising independently.
