Alderney Week’s Cavalcade Day saw a number of floats and fancy dressed walkers parade through St Anne’s towards the Butes.

Reporter David Nash told Express that although the number of floats and fancy dressed participants was down on previous years, there was a large crowd of visitors and locals cheering them on.

The cavalcade took place in St Anne’s and ended at the Butes playing field.

One highlight of the event was the “exuberant musicians from the North London Brass Band United Social Club who made a point  of serenading the island’s old folk  who had dressed up the frontage of the Connaught Care Home as they do every year,” reported Mr Nash.

“The Jersey -based  motorcycle  stunt team performed  ‘wheelies’ along the route  in front of the  parade and went on to wow the crowds in the arena later in the afternoon,” he added.

“There was a long queue for the refreshments tent  whose volunteers were giving afternoon tea with generous slices of all the donated cakes. The theme this year was ‘Wands at the Ready’ hence all  the fairies and pointed hats.”

Alderney Week is run entirely by volunteers and as a community event it is supported by the States of Alderney with donations from local businesses.
