Guernsey Waste have been granted permission to open the Chouet site to the public until 18:00 on weekends and public holidays, in line with the rest of the week.

It isn’t yet clear when the States will implement the change.

It applied saying the restriction on weekends led to a loss of a quarter of the potential opening hours when the site is at its busiest.

Given the relatively isolated location of the site and limited extension to the approved hours of operation, together with the likely use of the site during those hours by non-commercial vehicles, it is not considered that the proposed extended hours would give rise to any adverse impacts,” planning said.

The gates to the site open to the public at 10:00, allowing workers to clear the deposited waste each morning from 08:00.

Planning restricts activity on the site between 07:00 and 18:00 to prevent nuisance to residents.

Part of the application to realign security perimeter fencing was rejected on the basis it requires a standalone application, but changes inside the site to increase the height and length on the mega-block wall were approved.
