a greenhouse full of put plants, with a sign saying Grow 40.

About £700 worth of plants and gardening materials have been stolen from Guernsey horticulture charity Grow.

The charity said it planned to check CCTV footage, but was giving the thieves one last chance to pay for everything.

The missing haul includes two hanging baskets, Hebes, Campanula, Primroses, Heathers and other plants, as well as woodchip and compost, taken from its site over the weekend without payment.

Grow has traditionally operated an honesty-based sales system, allowing customers to pay for plants using an honesty box or SumUp card machine.

But General Manager Mandy Mackelworth said the charity was “extremely disappointed” by what had happened, warning that every plant represented time, care and hard work by its team.

She said the charity hoped to continue operating on a basis of trust, but needed customers to respect the system.

Grow has CCTV on site and will review footage from the weekend to establish what happened, a spokesperson said.

However, it is giving whoever took the items an opportunity to put things right by paying for them using the honesty box or SumUp machine.

The charity supports adults with learning disabilities and learning difficulties to develop skills, confidence and opportunities for the future.

It has thanked the many loyal customers who continue to support its work.
