Passport applications will move online in 2027.
The States said the island is being included in a UK-wide project to move from the paper-based system.
The relevant department within the Guernsey Border Agency will liaise with His Majesty’s Passport Officer on the project and work alongside Jersey, the Isle of Man, and Gibraltar to implement it.
The States said it would “streamline the application process” and more would be revealed next year.
Islanders may be asked about the plans by HMPO as part of a consultation.
Meanwhile, the President of Policy and Resources has commented on the UK’s plans to introduce digital ID.
Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez said: “We note the Prime Minister’s announcement and will seek clarity on any implications for islanders. No such decision around mandatory Digital ID has been made in Guernsey.”
