Guernsey Mind is relying on man’s best friend for support, in the first ever Walkies fundraiser, this Sunday.
Supported by local company Gravity, the charity says the aim is to “to come together for a fun, community event” whilst “raising funds to support Guernsey Mind’s vital work in mental health and wellbeing”.
Entry costs £5, and every dog taking part in the event will receive a goody bag, with those raising £20 or more in sponsorship entered into a special draw to win a “luxury pamper hamper”.
Amanda Hibbs, Communications and Events Lead at Guernsey Mind, explained that the social impact of a dog walk can really help with someone’s mental health and wellbeing.
“We know that getting outdoors, being active, and connecting with others can all have a really positive impact on our mental health.”
Ms Hibbs added: “Caring for a pet can also support our wellbeing – they get us moving, bring routine to our days, and offer the kind of loyal companionship that means so much. Pets are great listeners who never judge. Walkies is a chance to celebrate our amazing four-legged friends while also raising awareness for mental health.”
There’s the full-length 3km walk, with four staggered start times every half an hour between 08:30 and 10:00, with a “remote option” available for dogs who prefer a solo route, on the same day.
Full safety guidelines are available online on the charity’s website HERE, where you can also find the booking forms available, or you can speak to someone at Guernsey Mind on 722959.
