Guernsey Museum is holding an auction of images from the current ‘Chris George: 50 Years of Faces’ exhibition, with proceeds being donated to a local charity.
Guernsey Motor Neurone will benefit, a charity supported by Chris George himself, which provides care and support for people living with Motor Neurone Disease in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, along with their families and carers.
Susie Hunt, from Guernsey Motor Neurone, said: “We are so incredibly grateful to Chris George for choosing our charity to benefit from the auction of his wonderful exhibition photographs.
“Every penny raised will help ease the pain and suffering of islanders with MND and we can’t thank him – and everyone involved in the auction – enough for their support.”
The auction will take place at Guernsey Museum at Candie Gardens, next Thursday, 11 December, from 17:15 – 19:30, with bidding starting at 18:00.
Pre-auction bids can be placed in person at the Guernsey Museum before the event, which is being supported by Martel Maides Auctions, and the Guernsey Press.
The pieces have helped make up the ‘Chris George: 50 years of faces’ exhibition at Candie, which opened its doors to the public in October and will close at the end of the year.
Helen Glencross, Head of Culture and Heritage Services, said: “The exhibition has been incredibly popular, and it’s been wonderful to celebrate Chris George’s remarkable contribution to Guernsey’s cultural life.
“We felt an auction was a fantastic way to utilise the exhibition prints while also raising money for Guernsey Motor Neurone. We are very grateful to Martel Maides Auctions and the Guernsey Press for their generous support in making this event possible.”
