A team of four Guernsey men, led by Tom Falla, are getting ready to take on the Marathon du Médoc.
They will be running the 26.2-mile race next month in ‘Under the Sea’ themed mermaid costumes to raise money for Guernsey Motor Neurone, a local charity which has helped support Mr Falla’s wife, Daisy, who has Motor Neurone Disease.
The four runners are looking to raise at least £10,000 for GMN.
To help raise this money, the team of four, consisting of Mr Falla, Dominic Heaume, Adam Dorey, and James Draper, will be tackling the famed Marathon du Médoc, a unique race that takes place in France’s wine region, near Bordeaux.
It’s different to other marathons, with several short stops including wine-tasting, and trying gourmet food (such as oysters, steak, and cheese), with those taking part encouraged to partake in fancy dress and festivities.

Daisy Falla was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease five years ago, in June 2020.
Since then, Guernsey Motor Neurone has been an essential source of support for her and her family, providing emotional support, equipment, and practical help.
Mr Falla says he sees this marathon as a way of saying “thank you” and ensures others affected by the disease can also receive the same kind of care.
“The charity has been a lifeline for us. From emotional support to equipment and practical help, GMN makes life a little easier for people navigating this incredibly tough diagnosis. Running this marathon is our way of saying thank you — and helping make sure others continue to receive that same support.”
