A renowned champagne society’s gala dinner was held in Guernsey for the first time.
The international champagne society, L’ordre des Coteaux de Champagne, brought its gala dinner and ‘intronisation’ ceremony to Guernsey.
Traditionally staged in prestigious locations across Europe and Asia, this year’s ceremony being held in Guernsey signals growing recognition for the Channel Islands’ thriving champagne community.
The event, held earlier this month at La Fregate Hotel, welcomed members and guests from across the region, alongside Antoine Roland-Billecart of celebrated Champagne House Billecart-Salmon.

Vice Commandeur Antoine Roland-Billecart said: “Champagne is about bringing people together and creating memorable experiences.”
“Joining the Channel Islands chapter in Guernsey for this landmark occasion was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the passion for Champagne that connects enthusiasts around the world.”
After instating six new members at the intronisation ceremony, the Channel Islands chapter led by Consul Simon Dufty, currently has 73 members in the society.
Simon Dufty, General Manager of La Fregate, said: “Bringing the intronisation to Guernsey for the first time is a real milestone for us.”
“It was fantastic to welcome members and guests to the island and share the heritage, tradition and sheer enjoyment of Champagne in such a special setting.”
Open to anyone with an interest in champagne, membership of the Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne offers opportunities to attend events or to simply support the society.
