Guernsey Ports says it’s improving the accessibility of the Guernsey Airport website by integrating assistive technology.
The new ‘ReciteMe’ software features screen magnification, the ability to easily change text size, and translation services into over 100 languages.
Guernsey Ports Customer Services Manager, Mal Mechem said: “ReciteMe offers a range of on-demand accessibility solutions that supports customers, ensuring our website is more user-friendly for individuals with disabilities, situational challenges and anyone who requires language support.
“This will help all website users to access the information they need, whether that be flight and weather updates, information about airport facilities, or accessing our step-by-step guides to getting around the airport terminal.
“It is designed to make the customer experience as inclusive and welcoming as possible. ”

Users can activate the technology via a red icon, opening a toolbar that allows customisation of the website’s appearance, including color schemes, text, font, and spacing.
ReciteMe also offers translation into over 100 languages and text-to-speech functionality in 65 voices.
Gill Evans, the States Disability Officer, said: “In Guernsey, it is estimated that around 13,000 people live with various disabilities, and many have different communication needs. For instance, some may find it challenging to read large amounts of text, so features like highlighting key points or adjusting colours can make a significant difference.
“Others may require information translated into different languages. This tool enables individuals to tailor how they view and interact with the website, ensuring that the information is accessible and easier to understand for everyone.”
Guernsey Blind Association’s Vision Support Services Officer, Chantelle Tucker, also welcomed the new technology.
“Living on an island, freedom of travel is a vital part of independent living. We are delighted with how keen and proactive Guernsey Ports has been in continuing to develop its inclusivity with air travel.
“ReciteMe provides accessibility features that enhance the website experience for all users, regardless of their needs, promoting inclusion within society by breaking down barriers to access information which will greatly benefit so many people both locally and also visitors.”
