Guernsey Post’s three-month trial of a premium air postal service is ending after just 5% of customers opted to use it.

The Special Delivery by Air to the UK service will end on 2 October, when the final flight is scheduled.

Steve Sheridan, Chief Executive of Guernsey Post, said the trial was launched after the dedicated mail plane was withdrawn in July.

“Following the withdrawal of the dedicated mail plane, we introduced this trial to assess demand for an air-based Special Delivery service alongside our new sea-based products,” he said.

“The trial showed limited demand for a premium air-based option, with only 5% of customers choosing the service.

“Given the limited uptake of the trial, customer demand has not been sufficient to justify continuing the air-based service beyond the trial period.”

The remaining 95% of customers chose either Special Delivery by Sea, which guarantees a two-day service, or Tracked, which takes two to three days.

Next-day delivery will still be available through DHL Express.

Customers wanting to use the service should contact the DHL Express team directly on 01481 236596.
