Recycling bags can still be collected as normal at the usual outlets – but for now they will have a less familiar design and will not have printed information on the side.

The material and colour of the bags remain the same.

The information which is usually on each bag can still be accessed online HERE

Ben Henry, minimisation and recycling officer at the States, reassured islanders that these measures are only temporary.

“This is just a short-term fix to ensure no-one runs out in the meantime. Most households will still have some at home and therefore shouldn’t need them,” said Mr Henry.

He also said the temporary changes to the bags would not affect any household’s weekly recycling collections.

“We have notified the parish waste and recycling contractors to make them aware that if they come across these unprinted bags in the next few weeks then they are fine, so there should not be any issues.”

Guernsey Waste anticipates that the normal supply of bags will resume later this month.
