Callum Steer had just turned 20 when he was arrested by Guernsey Police on 9 February this year. As he resisted arrest he was charged and booked to appear in court later that month.
In the meantime Steer, who is unemployed, was arrested and charged with theft after stealing a black Diesel Sweatshirt worth £95 from Holeshot 2 in St Peter Port.
Just two days after he had committed that offence, Steer assaulted a police officer while at Guernsey Police Station.
Appearing before the Magistrate on Thursday for sentencing, Steer was given three months youth detention suspended for two years for assaulting the police officer, and 18 months probation for the shoplifting and resisting arrest offences.
The Magistrate also gave Steer an additional 40 hours of community service for breaching conditions imposed during a previous court appearance for dangerous driving.
