A States spokesperson has confirmed the mistake was a human error which is being resolved right now.
The situation is nothing to do with any past IT issues which the States have experienced which have been widely reported previously.
The spokesperson confirmed that multiple current and retired staff groups have been affected by this mistake, including police, fire, and prison officers as well as call handlers for the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre.
The error is “being addressed urgently” and all payments should be processed today with the money expected to reach everyone’s accounts by early this afternoon.
Statement from a States of Guernsey spokesperson:
“An issue during the payroll process resulted in a large number of staff and former staff, approximately 5,000, not receiving pay and pensions overnight.
“With regards pay, this has affected staff from police, fire (including a small number of airport fire personnel), prison and JESCC.
“Pensions were also not paid to all retired former States of Guernsey staff other than teachers.
“This was a human error and is being addressed urgently.
“We expect all those affected will receive their payments by early afternoon today (Thursday 30th November) and we will provide a further update this afternoon.”
