Deputy Gavin St Pier might lodge a Human Rights complaint against the States of Guernsey if he is suspended in the latest chapter of his conflict with a local doctor.

Sandie Bohin lodged a Code of Conduct complaint against him earlier this year after the politician confirmed some facts with a national newspaper journalist.

Deputy St Pier confirmed to the Guardian’s reporter how many complaints he was aware of that had been made against Dr Bohin. He had already declined an interview with the journalist and did not give her any information that wasn’t already in the public domain, he has said.

Dr Bohin’s latest Code of Conduct complaint against Deputy St Pier has been upheld and he is facing a 25 day suspension from the States.

Towards the beginning of October, Deputy St Pier wrote to the States Assembly and Constitution Committee outlining his position.

He gave examples of how the European Court of Human Rights has issued judgments on similar situations and that there is a risk of him making a claim against the States if SACC did not quash the Standards’ Commissioner’s conclusions and dismiss the complaint.

SACC has not yet done that, with the policy letter due to be debated by the States with deputies voting on suspending Deputy St Pier during next week’s meeting.
