Joshua Gomes had been growing his hair for two years before having it chopped off on Saturday.
Before the big cut, Joshua’s hair had grown down to below his shoulders.
His mum, Nikita Lee Gomes had previously told Express that people had told him he looked like a girl, but that hadn’t put the nine-year-old off as he was determined to raise the money and donate his hair to the charity.
Following an article posted by Express on Friday 2 March, Joshua’s fundraising target of £500 was reached and exceeded. By Monday morning he had already raised £865. His fundraising page is here.

When his hair was cut at Meraki salon on the Saturday afternoon, Joshua was able to donate six plaits, each measuring 24cm long.
A number of people who read the previous Express article praised Joshua with Rob Toms writing: “There’s a lad with a truly kind heart, his parents must be deservedly proud.”
Lucie Waylen wrote: “So proud of you Josh, from Emilie and Family at badgers.”

Joshua who is in year 5 at Notre Dame Du Rosaire Primary School was inspired by his mother, who previously donated 16cm of her own hair to the same charity.
Before he had his hair cut Mrs Gomes told Express: “Joshua makes me and his dad, Aldo, very very proud. We love him dearly and no matter how much people make reference to him being a girl he has not let this put him off, he really wants to help sick children and make them feel happy.”
After he had his haircut Mrs Gomes thanked everyone for their support saying Joshua was pleased to have raised more money than his target had been set for.
