A charity cycle ride has raised more than £70,480 for Les Bourgs Hospice, pushing the total money the event has raised past £1.25 million, since its launch in 2008.
This year’s ‘Ian Brown’s Cycle Shop 30 Rides in 30 Days Challenge’ saw 80 people cycle an hour a day in May, ending with the ‘Rock to Rocque’ round-island ride.
As part of the 19th annual event, a series of community fundraising events were held, including cake sales, quiz nights, school events, and static bike rides.
Woodies Coffee also donated some of their proceeds, while The Kiln at Oatlands hosted the opening breakfast.
Event organiser Ian Brown, who was recently awarded an MBE, thanked the riders and supporters, praising their efforts which highlighted how much Guernsey “appreciated” the hospice.
He said: “I am very grateful, as always, to all the riders for their efforts out on their bicycles and their supporters who donated to the fundraising in various ways.”
Mr Brown said the event demonstrated the “value and appreciation the Guernsey community has for Les Bourgs Hospice and the care and support it offers islanders and their families”.
‘Immediate difference’
Rob Jones, Les Bourgs CEO, said the funds would make a “real and immediate difference” to patient care, and expressed his gratitude to the cyclists and organiser team.
Mr Jones said: “This incredible total takes the event’s fundraising past £1.25m and we are profoundly grateful to everyone who rode, donated or supported the challenge.”
“Ian’s recent MBE is a fitting recognition of the impact he has had on local charities, including Les Bourgs Hospice,” Mr Jones finished.
