Guernsey was represented by Elizabeth College in all three age groups after the school took out every other island competitor in their heats, while Jersey was represented by St Michael’s Preparatory of Jersey in year six, De La Salle in year eight and Hautlieu in post 16.
The De Putron Challenge itself is an annual school quiz, which pits students against each other in a series of trivia and general knowledge rounds.

This year, while Jersey clinched victory in the year six round, winning by just four points, Elizabeth College won out in the year eight round, with seven more points than their opponents.
Sam Stewart and Caleb Camp, both 12, were on that year eight team, and they said they were really happy to have won the trophy.
“It’s great we won because De La Salle took the trophy last year, so we have brought it back to College and Guernsey this time,” Sam said.
Caleb added: “the best way to practice was to watch lots of quiz shows – even more than usual. I like University Challenge”.
To be chosen for the team, Caleb and Sam, along with their teammates George and Soren took part in an in-school quiz along with their class mates. The four of them were identified as the best quizzers.

The last competition of the day saw visiting Jersey team, Hautlieu School, take an early lead after the first round in the post 16 quiz with both teams putting in some strong responses. but Elizabeth College edged ahead in the final round taking a 10 point lead.
“Both teams showed some great resilience in what was a very difficult Post 16 event rising to the challenge and posting impressive scores,” said the organisers.
Hayley De Putron, a trustee of the Ana Leaf Foundation presented the prizes and thanked everyone involved for taking part.
