The boat that is intended to run the new inter-island ferry service will be a 316-seat catamaran, that can make the crossing between Guernsey and Jersey in just 60-minutes.
Islands Unlimited intends to start daily sailings between Guernsey and Jersey from Friday 30 May, with an adult fare costing approximately £67.
The new boat, announced online this week, will feature air-conditioned passenger cabins, a cafe and bar, a premium class lounge with complimentary refreshments, washrooms (including reduced mobility facilities), baby changing facilities, and baggage storage.
Deputy Neil Inder, the President of Economic Development shared the company’s news about its planned new vessel on his social media platforms earlier this week.
Guernsey put £150,000 towards the new company, which has been set up by the island’s former Harbour Master, to try and fill the gap in inter-island ferry services.
Islands Unlimited’s new vessel will only be offering a foot passenger service though, with Brittany Ferries offering a once per week sailing between Guernsey and Jersey for vehicles and passengers on Wednesdays as part of its new schedules for Guernsey, the UK and St Malo.
DFDS has not yet included any inter-island services in its schedules for Jersey.
Before it can start sailing between the islands, Islands Unlimited needs to confirm one more thing following the purchase of the vessel – the staff to crew her.
The company is looking for a Master, an Officer of the Watch, a Chief Engineer, a Deck Able, and an Engine Able Seafarer.
The job listings opened on Monday 17 March and are due to close in three weeks time, (Monday 14 April).
