A grey squirrel is on the loose in Guernsey, having apparently found its way to the island via a vehicle that’s recently come over from the UK.
Squirrels are not native to Guernsey so the appearance of one on Grandes Maison Road in St Sampson’s took people by surprise today.
“It seems very healthy and has run off and the GSPCA are appealing for any sightings to email us admin@gspca.org.gg or call 257261,” said GSPCA Manager, Steve Byrne.
“Grey squirrels are not indigenous to Guernsey and we have let the States of Guernsey know,” he added.
“Trying to catch a healthy squirrel will be very challenging until we know the area it settles in but all reports are much appreciated and we will release more information when we know.”
Photographs taken of the squirrel earlier today show it atop a vehicle at Blue Chip Motors on Grandes Maison Road, near Delancey Park.
