The GSPCA has a new addition to its list of uninvited visitors, after a Gecko was found at Jeffery’s Petrol Forecourt.
So far this year the animal charity has had to contest with an uninvited Grey Squirrel, and another unexpected reptile, when Maximillian the Madeiran Lizard, found its way to Guernsey in someone’s luggage.
The latest reptile is believed to be a Tarentola Mauritancia, more easily known as a Common Wall Gecko.
It’s currently under quarantine at the GSPCA confirmed Senior Animal Care and Welfare Assistant, Seb Goman.
“Every day at the GSPCA is different. We never know what will come in next, and on Thursday last week a little lizard was brought to us which is now in a vivarium in a quarantine area.”

The species is native to the western-mediterranean areas of North Africa and Europe, although it has since been introduced to Madeira, the Balearic Islands, and the Americas.
The species is considered, and proven to be, an excellent adaptor. Being able to live around humans comfortably, with a diverse insect-based diet.
Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, confirmed Rosey the Gecko will be staying put in Guernsey now she is here.
“Now named Rosey, she is in quarantine at the GSPCA and like previous reptile arrivals if healthy then we will look to find it a new home as it is so difficult to get them back to their native lands.”
Mr Byrne continued: “We all know from the challenges with Barnacle Bill who is only now heading to the Azores from the Sealife centre in Brighton after nearly two years in care.”
If you can provide a loving home for Rosey, or any other animals currently in the care of the GSPCA, you can find out more on their website, HERE.
Mr Byrne concluded: “We are always looking for loving homes for animals and we do have many cats, lots of rabbits, ferrets, and you will often see many home to homes on our social media so if wanting to give an animal a home please do complete an online adoption form or pop in and say hello.”
