The arrangements for distributing Liberation Day hampers to the island’s senior residents have been finalised.
Those being distributed via Age Concern or the island’s network of care and residential homes will be delivered over the coming days, while the individual hampers will be available for collection on Friday morning.
The hampers are the result of a collaboration between private companies and the organisers of the island’s 80th Liberation Day events.
Howden is supplying the Afternoon Tea hampers for care home residents, while Collas Crill has worked with Guernsey Dairy to arrange for the 500 individual hampers to be given to anyone aged 80 or over, who was in Guernsey or evacuated during the Second World War.
It’s the third year running that Collas Crill has funded those hampers which will each include tea, Senners Bakery scones, Guernsey Gâche, jam and Guernsey Dairy products.
They will also be accompanied by a traditional ration card.

Deputy Sue Aldwell, Committee for Education, Sport and Culture, said the gifts were only available thanks to Collas Crill and the Dairy’s generosity.
“I’d like to extend my gratitude to Collas Crill and the Guernsey Dairy for making it possible once again for islanders who do not live in residential homes to receive such a thoughtful token of our appreciation.
“It’s a great initiative to help them get in the Liberation Day spirit, even more so as we commemorate such a significant milestone.”
Gareth Bell, Guernsey Managing Partner at Collas Crill, said the hampers are a special project to be involved with.
“We’re thrilled to support the Guernsey hampers once again as we remember a key part of our island’s history.
“Our team loves being part of this special project and we look forward to meeting some of the island’s residents and hearing their tales of the occupation and evacuation. We hope they enjoy the hampers.”

Andrew Tabel, Managing Director at the Guernsey Dairy, said he was pleased it could support Collas Crill in this initiative
“The Guernsey Dairy has supported the individual hamper initiative for several years and, in remembrance of the 80th anniversary of Guernsey’s liberation, is pleased to continue this tradition.
“Individual hampers will include fresh Guernsey milk, butter and cream, to complement Senners scones and Guernsey Gâche.”
Afternoon tea hampers will be distributed to members of the island’s four Age Concern groups Monday, ahead of Liberation Day.
Older people who live in a care or residential home will be receiving their Liberation Day Afternoon Tea hampers – supplied by Howden, on Thursday.
The individual hampers will be available to collect from Beau Sejour on Friday 9 May from 08.30-11.30.
When collecting the hampers, individuals, carers or family members are required to bring a
form of identification for themselves and the recipient, such as a passport or driving license.
