The “now” in the sign” was meant to be “not” – to make it clear that dogs, bicycles and motor vehicles are not allowed.
A former Vale Deputy, Mary Lowe, was told of the mistake by a member of the public and shared it on Twitter.
Agriculture Countryside and Land Management Services, which is part of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure, took down the sign when they noticed the unfortunate but amusing error.
“A sign at Lihou was taken down on Monday morning after a typo was spotted at the weekend. We will be replacing this very shortly,” they said.
“We would like to reassure islanders that there has certainly been no change to the rules,
“Dogs, bicycles, motorbikes and cars are not permitted on Lihou, which is an important natural habitat for our local wildlife.”

Mrs Lowe believed the sign is an unnecessary addition.
“Aside from the obvious mistake, it begs the question why the sign is even needed in the first place when there are three other signs in the same place with the same information on,” she said.
“These signs are littering our coastline and I don’t believe it should be put back up once it has been corrected.”
