The Lions Club of Guernsey has helped Meals on Wheels put food on the table for some of the island’s most vulnerable residents.
The club has donated a new car to Guernsey Voluntary Service (GVS), replacing the oldest vehicle in its fleet and helping keep the service serving up hot meals across the island.
Meals on Wheels delivers 110 meals a day, six days a week, with 28,000 meals dished out last year.
But for many of the people it delivers to, there is more to the service than what is on the plate.
The volunteers dropping off meals can provide an important bit of company too, with some clients having little other social contact during the day.

One client said: “I look forward to the ladies coming in every day. Also, it’s a nice surprise to what I am having for dinner.”
Grateful
Mandy Le Bachelet, GVS Manager, said the Lions’ latest contribution would help ensure the service can keep feeding those who rely on it.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Lions Club of Guernsey for their continued generosity and support,” she said.
“Their latest donation will enable us to keep this essential service on the road, ensuring we can continue helping older people remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible.”
GVS replaces each vehicle every five years, when its warranty expires, with the cars provided through sponsorship and branded with the sponsor’s name.
Ms Le Bachelet said having organisations such as the Lions Club willing to invest in the community made “a tremendous difference”.
And with a fresh set of wheels now joining the pride, Meals on Wheels can keep bringing a hot meal, a friendly face and a little bite of independence to its clients.
