Following a successful debut in 2024, Guernsey Electricity is returning to host a second ‘The Powering Life for Less Show’ to support customers on how to reduce their energy costs.
The community event takes place at St Pierre Park Hotel on Saturday 20 September from 10:00 to 15:00 and attendees will hear from experts offering bespoke advice and hands-on demonstrations from the company’s staff.
Steven Parks, Head of Customer Experience at Guernsey Electricity, told Express: “We understand the growing concerns around the cost of living and the impact this can have on many households. Our aim is to share our expertise and practical solutions to help customers save money.
“This year, we have introduced more interactive elements to the event, ensuring attendees of all ages can get involved in learning about ways to power life for less,” he said.
The event will see GEL partnering with local businesses including the Little Green Energy Company who will be providing expertise, supplying information on renewable solutions and how to power homes sustainably. Charity organisations are joining to outline the support services they offer to islanders. Other participants include the Repair Café, Iris & Dora, and Grow Ltd.
Additional features at the event include an interactive area for children with face painting, energy saving games and challenges to engage the younger generation to be mindful of energy consumption. Live demonstrations will show common energy pain points around the home, from how to change a light bulb to reading an electricity meter.
Company staff including CEO Alan Bates will be hosting presentations on the day on topics including delivery of the Electricity Strategy, tariffs, home electrification, energy saving and staying safe online. All households attending will be entered into a free raffle with a chance to win prizes totalling over £2,000.
Cost-effective, healthy recipes are also being showcased. Curated by Guernsey Electricity staff, the dishes cost under £1 per portion, with free samples available.
Alliance will be running an offer on selected recipe ingredients from Monday 15 September to Monday 29 September.
There will be a dedicated customer support area for attendees to speak directly with Guernsey Electricity’s representatives regarding their bill and ways to save energy and ultimately reduce consumption.
Guernsey Electricity will also be giving attendees an opportunity to provide their thoughts around the evolution of future tariffs via an online survey. The anonymous survey is currently open to all Islanders and will run until 24 September.
Mr Parks added: “We strive to be fair and provide value for our customers and community. This event is an opportunity for us to come together and offer meaningful and accessible support to those who need it.”
