Guernsey could be named ‘the most desirable island in Europe’ later this year, with VisitGuernsey hoping to win votes from locals and visitors alike.
The ‘Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards’ celebrate destinations around the world – with the most desirable regions, cities, and cultural hot spots highlighted alongside ’emerging destinations’.
Guernsey has been shortlisted in the ‘Most Desirable Island in Europe’ category, which was won by Ireland last year.
Online voting is now open and closes on 27 October, with winners announced on 4 November.

Desirable Guernsey
With locals and visitors encouraged to vote for Guernsey so it can be named the most desirable island in Europe, we looked at what our dear Sarnia has to offer.
As the sun shines down this summer, there are plenty of beaches and bays to sunbathe and cool off.
Guernsey has 27 in total, ranging from sandy sea scapes to rocky coves.

Some of the bays are only accessible via boats or the island’s 16mile long cliff paths.
A newly launched cliff path signage system will help you navigate those paths if you’re not familiar with the cliffs.
If walking is your thing, then you can follow in the footsteps of one of Guernsey’s most famous ever residents, via the Victor Hugo trail.
Tour guides offer walking excursions throughout the year too, with an artistic one launching this week.
All that walking might make you hungry, and there are plenty of options for eating out across Guernsey.
Vraic, Alba, Fukku, and others are among the island’s Michelin Guide highlighted eateries.

Other budgets are catered for too, with Crabby Jacks on the west coast a firm family favourite. Premier league footballer Alex Scott was spotted there this summer!
He and step-sister Maya Le Tissier hail from Guernsey – no relation to Matt Le Tissier, another famous footballing talent!
Andy and Seb Priaulx, Heather Watson, Alison Merrien, Lee Merrien, and Alastair and Cameron Chalmers are also among the famous sportspeople who grew up and had their talents nurtured in Guernsey.
Guernsey’s appeal as a destination is nothing new, with Condé Nast Traveler previously ranking Guernsey (and Jersey…) very highly among Europe’s islands.
In 2022, the magazine’s own awards placed the Channel Islands 4th in a list of top European islands to visit, behind Ibiza, Crete, and Sardinia.
However, The Telegraph got it wrong last year though, when it named Jersey as the better of the two largest Channel Islands.
