UK MPs are now getting involved in the ongoing dispute over the continued employment of disgraced doctor Ali Shokouh-Amiri.

He was the Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the MSG between 2016 and 2019.

Hundreds of allegations were made against him by six patients during that time.

Dr Shokouh-Amiri admitted some of the claims– including removing the ovaries of two women without their consent, carrying out intimate examinations without a chaperone on multiple women, and failing to arrange treatment for another patient.

He denied other allegations, and a Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service panel found tens of others were not proven.

As a result of that, he was given a formal warning for his conduct, but he’s been allowed to continue practicing medicine.

He has worked in Southend since 2022, and the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust which employs him said it has “full confidence in his ability to provide safe, high-quality care to our patients”.

More than 13,000 people have signed a petition calling for his medical licence to be revoked and people living in Southend have raised the issue with their political representatives.

David Burton-Sampson MP and Bayo Alaba MP are the Labour MP for Southend West and Leigh and  Labour MP for Southend East and Rochford respectively.
