Expected to last a number of weeks, the Royal Court will try Rory McDermott, 31, and Naomi Prestidge, 30, on a joint charge of manslaughter – something they have both pleaded not guilty to.
However the Prosecution will be trying to prove to Judge Russell Finch and nine Jurats that it was the nurses’ “gross negligence” that led to Ms Ellis’ death in 2017.
Reporting restrictions were put on the trial to prevent the publication of any of the evidence until it has all been heard. These will be lifted when the final witness has appeared.
