Veterans and people from Guernsey who were evacuated or lived through the German Occupation during World War Two have been given hampers, to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the island’s liberation.
The hampers include fresh Guernsey produce and baked goods including cakes, Guernsey milk and butter, gâche, and vintage-style Liberation Tea.
Among the older islanders receiving a hamper was 102-year-old veteran Tom Morris, who served as a gunner in the British Army in the Netherlands and Germany – signing up when he was just 15.
Mr Morris, who returned to the island after the war to rebuild his life, said the hamper looked “wonderful”.

Philippa Hardwick, from sponsors Rok, said it was “so nice” to be able to celebrate and honour people from the island who’d lived through the war.
She also said it was to important hear the stories first hand from them, as it helped younger people understand “what it was really like”.

As well as the hampers, residents from Blanchelande Nursing Home were also treated to a Liberation Day makeover and a visit from a World War Two era truck.
Hampers were distributed to residents in care homes across the island and through Age Concern groups.
Islanders aged 80 and over, living in private accommodation or with family are also receiving hampers.
People who registered in advance can collect one from Beau Sejour on Saturday 9 May from 08:30 – 11:00.
