A number of early bids have been placed ahead of the Dolphin Discovery Trail auction which takes place one week today.

All 62 statues will be sold on Wednesday 17 September including ‘Freedom’ above, which was sponsored by Marks and Spencer and decorated by Ross Le Brun.

Each dolphin has a reserve price of £500 – and any early bids can be emailed to steve@gspca.org.gg.

The dolphins will be available for public viewings at the Charities’ Seafront Sunday on 14 September.

They will then be on display at the Peninsula Hotel from Monday next week before the auction on Wednesday.

All of the money raised through the Dolphin Discovery Trail so far, and next week’s auction, will be split between the GSPCA and Autism Guernsey.

GSPCA Manager, Steve Byrne said the auction is already looking like it will be a good night of fundraising for both charities.

“We are delighted to announce we are now taking reserve bids for the 62 dolphins in aid of the GSPCA and Autism Guernsey which all bar the Herm dolphin have been collected. It’s been incredible to see so many people enjoying the Dolphin Discovery Trail and supporting two fantastic causes. The Dolphin Discovery Trail has brought so much joy to the island, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who took part, sponsored a dolphin, or helped behind the scenes. The funds raised will make a real difference to the animals in our care and the vital work we do. Tickets are now on sale and we have already have our first bids in on dolphins so don’t miss out on owning one of these incredible pieces of art by a reserve bid or coming along on the 17th September”

Andrew Sparkes, Director of Autism Guernsey, said seeing the dolphins on display at the Peninsula Hotel, and before that at the Charities’ Seafront Sunday will ensure a colourful spectacle before they are all sold off.

“The trail has brought joy, colour, and community spirit to Guernsey. We’re thrilled with the response and grateful to all the sponsors, artists, and supporters. The funds raised will make a real difference to those we support, and we can’t wait to celebrate the dolphins at the upcoming events.  The trail has raised awareness and support for Autism Guernsey as well as the GSPCA, and we’re excited to see the dolphins go to new homes at the auction.”
