The date aptly marks the 75th anniversary of the Normandy D-Day Landings which started with Operation Overlord on 6 June 1944, with the year 2019 also marking the centenary of civil aviation.
The event was rescheduled from its usual September date, which coincided with the anniversary of the Battle of Britain, due to timing conflicts with the existing established Air Shows and Air Displays part of the Red Arrows’ US and Canada tour.
The widely popular Red Arrows will be closing today’s event, rounding off the show. The programme includes the Swansea-based formation aerobatic display team Team Raven, stunt performer Cheeky Champ, the high energy Muscle Bi-plane as well as the UK’s first and only disabled formation flying team called ‘Bader’s Bus Company’.

A narration of the display will be broadcast on the public address system along the seafront from the Weighbridge Roundabout to the Albert Memorial where the best viewing points can be found.
Barry Neal, The Director and Organiser of the Guernsey Air Display, stressed the importance of safety on such an occasion ahead of the display starting, cautioning the public to be careful when enjoying the show “especially from the piers in St Peter Port and when crossing car parks and roads if you are looking skywards towards the aircraft.”
“Please can all boat owners continue their excellent conduct and refrain from sailing in or out of St Peter Port during the Display and not attempt to watch the Display from the sea,” he added.
The Guernsey Event Company has helped coordinate today’s Air Display and thanked all the generous local businesses which have provided support and funding for the show, as well as the Friends of the Guernsey Air Display and the Culture & Heritage Department at the States which contributed a grant towards financing of the show.
