Guernsey Water is reminding cesspit customers collection schedules will be adjusted over this Bank Holiday weekend.
Two-thirds of cesspit drivers will be working on Monday’s Bank Holiday.
Customers whose usual driver is not working will have their collection automatically rescheduled and do not need to take any action.
Cesspit Manager Steve Chippendale, said: “We’ve put plans in place for the Bank Holiday period and customers don’t need to contact us if their usual collection day falls on Monday.
“Any changes to collection dates will be made automatically and customers can see those updates straight away through the MyCesspit portal.”
“The portal is a free service that gives customers direct access to information about their cesspit and collection schedule, making it the quickest and easiest way to stay informed.”
Mr Chippendale said the service was currently benefiting from the exceptionally dry conditions experienced over recent months but encouraged customers to think ahead before wetter weather returns.
“Following such a prolonged dry spell, the service is in a strong position. However, as we move towards autumn, it’s worth customers contacting a drainage company if their pit filled faster during the heavy rain at the start of the year.”
“If you suspect your cesspit may be taking in groundwater or surface water, now is a good time to arrange for it to be inspected by a drainage specialist.
“Resolving those issues can help customers avoid unnecessary collection costs while also reducing pressure on the wider service during peak periods.”
